In order to safeguard your smile against decay, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene by supplementing brushing and flossing with periodic dental checkups and cleanings. Together, our team at Mirage Dental will ensure that your teeth are in the best possible hands, never cutting any corners, especially when it comes to quality results. Besides providing superlative treatment, we at Mirage Dental take great pride in the lengths we go to ensure our patients’ comfort.
At Mirage Dental, we test our sterilization equipment daily, and send to an independent offsite company for weekly test results. The State of Colorado requires monthly testing. We do it every week!
General Dentistry Procedures
At Mirage Dental we offer an extensive variety of general dentistry procedures. The following are just a few of the general dentistry procedures we are proud to offer:
- Laser Treatment – A fairly quick procedure to speed up the healing process of apthous ulcers, better known as canker sores. The treatment also shortens the duration of cold sores.
- Periodontal Check – Conducted during every routine dental exam, the checkup looks for periodontal disease and allows us to determine the depth of tissue attachment around the tooth. If the tissue pocket is too deep, the patient will not be able to maintain proper oral hygiene, and further treatment will be required.
- Intra-Oral Camera – Allows the patient to see what the hygienist and doctor see during cleanings and exams. It shows the patient the inside of their mouth, as well as teeth that are not visible with a mirror. The camera is used as a tool to detect a variety of issues, including oral cancer. Oral cancer is a very serious disease, and it is very important to catch early on. Through our examinations we will be able to identify oral cancer at the onset, which can greatly improve the chances of a successful treatment. At Mirage Dental, we perform an oral cancer screening at every 6-month teeth cleaning appointment.
Pediatric General Dentistry
If your child does not properly clean their teeth, bacteria may start to grow and break down the enamel. While a tooth develops, deep grooves form in the biting surface on the back teeth. The groves are called “fissures” and the intersection of fissures is called a “pit”; these areas are at the highest risk of cavities, even with excellent care and routine oral hygiene. Tooth sealants protect these high-risk areas by sealing out plaque and food.
Sealants are made of a resin material that is applied to the pits and fissures of the back teeth. Since children are more susceptible to tooth decay than adults, tooth sealants should be applied, when possible, before decay begins. The enamel of the teeth wears down over the years, even with good oral hygiene. A fluoride treatment will strengthen the enamel and fortify the teeth with a germ fighting solution, as well as help reduce sensitivity in the teeth.
Dental X-Ray Technology
Mirage Dental utilizes the latest dental technology to ensure patient comfort and satisfaction at our office. The Team at Mirage Dental is pleased to offer an array of dental technologies.
Digital radiography is a form of X-ray imaging that uses digital X-ray sensors instead of the film found in traditional X-ray technology. This reduces the amount of radiation exposure by over 80 percent. The digital radiograph allows the doctor to manipulate the dental image virtually, enhancing the diagnostic quality in ways that cannot be achieved with traditional dental X-rays. Digital radiography is an integral element of the dental technology in use at our office.
The Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CT) is a special type of x-ray equipment used when regular dental or facial x-rays are not sufficient. This technology produces a three dimensional (3-D) image of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan.
This can significantly increase the level of detailed information available to our dentists at Mirage Dental while mitigating the level of patient radiation exposure.
With Cone Beam Computed Tomography, Mirage Dental can gain a highly accurate 3-D image of the patient’s anatomy from a single scan. These 3-D images allow us to better diagnose and understand the true extent of dental disease, and they can provide for more appropriate treatment for patients.
CBCT is a technology that is considered by some to be the standard of care in dentistry. This technological leap allows Mirage Dental to gain immediate access to accurate 3-D images of anatomical structures, which often are critical to precise diagnoses and more effective treatment planning. The use of our CBCT at Mirage Dental produces up to 80% less radiation than traditional x-rays. We care about our patients’ safety, and the safety of our Team.
With a wide variety of the latest dental technologies available, our patients receive the best possible care in a comfortable, relaxed setting featuring a bevy of amenities. Whether you need a simple exam or total mouth restoration, our dental technology can help improve the experience and most importantly, the results.

Tooth Colored Fillings
Many aspects of a person’s life can be significantly improved through cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry has, in fact, become a significant part of virtually every complete physical makeover. As more and more people discover the advantages of treatments such as porcelain veneers, teeth whitening and instant orthodontics, our facility continues to stand apart from the rest in terms of expertise and customer service. Mirage Dental offers extensive experience, which allows our practice to offer patients the best available technology and treatment options.
Porcelain Veneers are thin layers of porcelain shells that are bonded to the front of teeth for cosmetic enhancement purposes.
Most people believe that a chipped, stained, or crooked smile can hinder their chances for social and professional advancement. If your smile is aesthetically flawed or you are not happy with the appearance of your teeth, porcelain veneers is a way to escape the worries that may linger in the back of your mind, a way to release yourself from the self-consciousness that can keep you from reaching your full potential. Porcelain veneers can give you a more confident smile and make you feel better about yourself.
Imagine no longer feeling insecure about your smile, wondering what others might think. Porcelain veneers give you a chance to change; they are the first step to a new you. The cost of porcelain veneers at our practice depends on the difficulty of the case, and the amount of porcelain veneers that are necessary to give you the healthy smile that you desire. Our dentists and our team at Mirage Dental will work with you to help you understand your options and the associated costs.
Mirage Dental only places cosmetically pleasing porcelain crowns. Please see our section on Same Day Crowns to see how we can place a crown in a single visit.
Currently one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures, several teeth whitening options are available at our dental practice. Teeth whitening is the process of whitening teeth using a peroxide based material. It is one of the most effective cosmetic dental procedures in improving stained and discolored teeth.
First impressions are very important; whether accurate or not, often it is the image that stays with people. With radiant white teeth you will surely leave an indelible impression. Yellow teeth are often considered a sign of an unhealthy lifestyle, and they can have a negative impact on your self-esteem and your social life. White teeth can boost confidence, providing proof of vitality with every smile. Besides adding luster to your smile, teeth whitening can also help minimize the appearance of facial wrinkles, allowing a youthful and more energetic you to shine through. Knowing all of this, it should be no surprise to learn that Mirage Dental offers this new technique in teeth whitening.
Laser Teeth Whitening
At Mirage Dental, we take great pride in providing our patients with the latest in dental technology. The teeth whitening laser, Zoom®, is no exception. Zoom® is an innovative soft tissue surgical device at the forefront of dental technology. While the procedure may be fairly brisk, the results are incredibly transformative. To begin the procedure, a bleaching solution is applied to your teeth and the Zoom® whitening laser then activates the solution. Within one hour, your teeth are several shades lighter, and they continue to whiten for several days following the procedure. Laser teeth whitening at Mirage Dental is one of the most effective cosmetic procedures at improving stained and discolored teeth. The laser treatment is relatively inexpensive given its amazing transformative properties.
Zoom is the only proven technology to whiten teeth up to eight shades, and is very safe. While other whitening products can harm teeth and gums, using Zoom actually gives you greater luster and protects enamel.
Tray Teeth Whitening or At-Home Whitening
For patients seeking a less expensive or more conventional form of teeth whitening, there is traditional tray whitening treatment, a take home alternative to our laser whitening. Every tray is custom fitted to fit each individual patient.
Whether undergoing laser or tray teeth whitening, our patients’ comfort is paramount. With the at-home teeth whitening option, you will leave our office with a custom made whitening tray. The doctor will prescribe a plan for you and send you home with instructions on how to use the whitening material. A follow-up visit is made two to three weeks after the initial visit where the doctor will assess the success of the treatment.
Instant orthodontics offers an alternative for people who don’t want to spend years in braces. Mirage Dental can dramatically improve overcrowded, misshapen, and crooked teeth with porcelain veneers. Many people would choose to live with overcrowded and misshapen teeth rather than spend years in braces. Now, thanks to instant orthodontics, our practice is able to provide patients with an alternative that produces results equal to those of traditional braces in a fraction of the time.
Instant Orthodontics Offer: an Alternative to Braces
The instant orthodontics procedure uses veneers and crowns to close gaps and correct overlapping teeth. It allows patients to achieve beautiful and straight teeth without the discomfort and inconvenience of having to wear metal braces, producing similar results in a fraction of the time. The procedure requires only two or three visits over a period of two to three weeks. Instant orthodontics can dramatically improve the appearance of overcrowded, misshapen, and crooked teeth, restoring them to a natural and radiant smile.
While silver fillings are generally less expensive than tooth-colored fillings, the disadvantages are fairly significant. Firstly, as far as aesthetics is concerned, there is no comparison. Composite fillings are made from a tooth-colored resin which looks and feels like natural teeth. The resin is bonded to teeth, making them stronger and more aesthetically pleasing. Secondly, unlike traditional silver fillings, composite fillings contain no toxic and damaging mercury.
Composite fillings are most often used to fill spaces in teeth, reshape teeth, or to correct tooth discolorations.
Same Day Crowns
The team at Mirage Dental pride themselves on cutting edge technology. Mirage Dental offers the unique position of having the distinction of providing the use of CEREC Machine and E4D Technology. This technology produces CAD/CAM Crowns. The CAD (Computer Aided Design) provides a digital impression of the tooth. The CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) precisely mills a crown from a block of selected materials. Both of these technologies are able to produce a crown for a patient in an hour! Gone is the 2-appointment crown, the temporary that falls off or breaks, the goop of an impression, 2 visits, 2 shots, missing work twice, the inconvenience of having to come into the office! We value your time and do not want to waste it.
The benefits of this technology are:
- Precision, Accuracy, and Quality
- Esthetically Beautiful Crown
- Only 1 visit, not multiple appointments
- No Temporary
- No Goop of the Impression (Yuck)
- Get Numb Only Once
- Shortened Appointment Time
- No Missed Work for Multiple Visits
Mirage Dental serves as a training center for other dentists throughout the country to come and learn the technology used daily at Mirage. While Dr. Moroni lectures and trains dentists internationally, his expertise is unparalleled in the field. Dr. Moroni’s involvement in the Beta-Testing of the E4D places him in the position to implement the best of the technology for the patients at Mirage Dental.
Has aging started to change your appearance?
Your face is a reflection of who you are, and it should reflect the beauty and personality that lie within. Unfortunately, your face is one of the first areas to show signs of aging – from sun exposure to heredity to normal wear and tear, your face doesn’t always accurately portray the peace and joy you feel on the inside. As signs of aging begin, you may start to feel less confident when you look in the mirror.
Let us help you uncover your true self.
We understand that cosmetic surgery is about far more than what others think about you. We are committed to helping you find freedom and joy by uncovering your true self that lies just beneath the surface.
We offer truly personalized care.
Our facial experts offer personalized care to each patient we encounter to help you look better and feel more confident. We are skilled in a variety of plastic surgery procedures so that we can tailor your aesthetic plan to meet your specific needs. We are with you every step of the way – ready to answer your questions, determine a plan of action, and provide the best care possible.
What you need to know about fillers and neurotoxins:
- When searching for an injector, focus on the results they are able to achieve, not the products they use or the price of those products.
- You get great results when the right amount of the right product is injected in the right proportion into the right place.
- In order to get these kinds of results, the person doing the injecting must not only have an artistic eye, but also a physiologist’s understanding of aging, a sculptor’s understanding of proportions and a surgeon’s understanding of anatomy.
- Injecting is not about filling lines and smoothing wrinkles. This approach often results in a face that has fewer lines but looks unnatural.
- Injecting is about creating attractive facial structure, recreating youthful facial proportions, adding volume appropriately, and only then filling lines if needed. This approach results in a much more attractive face overall. We appreciate the unique beauty in each of our patients, and are able to enhance your inherently attractive features while minimizing the aging changes to provide a natural, healthy, rested, and youthful result.
Injections done well enhance your most attractive features while taking attention away from less attractive features.
Dr. Moroni prefers the following products:
Dr. Moroni is certified with the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE)
Dr. Moroni performs injectables daily on his facial esthetic patients. His desire is to produce a natural, softer, smoother looking appearance with use of injectables and fillers.
Braces for kids can make a big difference in some cases. Be sure to have your child examined early. Call 720-733-3440 to schedule your complimentary initial exam.
A beautiful smile and good dental health make a difference in your child’s well-being and self-confidence. While braces for teens are more common, braces for kids can pave the way for a better final outcome as your child continues to grow and develop.
Good dental health begins early. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends your child’s first visit to the orthodontist to take place by age 7. It might be necessary for this first visit to take place as early as age 5 or 6. Treatment may not start at this time, but it is important to ensure that your child receives the maximum dental care.
Braces for kids are not uncommon and can also have psychosocial benefits if the child’s teeth are very crooked or crowded and he/she is experiencing teasing or bullying.
Braces for kids may mean treatment in two phases, but it helps in certain cases to make room for the permanent teeth before that window of opportunity closes (typically, age 10).
Your child may need an orthodontic exam if any of the following warning signs are present:
- Crowding, misplaced or blocked teeth
- Difficulty in chewing or biting
- Grinding of teeth, especially at night
- Finger sucking or other oral habits
- Mouth breathing
A solution to wearing tradition metal braces is found by choosing Invisalign, a solution that renders braces virtually invisible.
Invisalign aligners are comfortable, low profile, custom-made clear plastic trays that most people don’t even know you are wearing. As your teeth change and your smile improves, you will change aligners regularly, wearing them for 20-22 hours a day.
There are advantages of using Invisalign over traditional braces:
- Each aligner is only worn for a one- to two-week time frame
- Appointments are only needed every eight to twelve weeks to pick up your next sets of aligners
- You have the convenience of being able to remove your aligners before each meal
- You do not have to worry about the hassle of food getting stuck between your teeth, as with traditional braces.
- Aligners can be removed to eat, drink, or floss and brush your teeth.
Improve your appearance and your dental health
Improving the health of your teeth and gums is important. Crooked teeth and a bad bite can contribute to gum and bone loss, tooth decay, abnormal wear of tooth and enamel and surfaces, even headaches, and sometime jaw and joint (TMJ/TMD) pain.
Teeth alignment can be changed at any age if your gums and bone structure are healthy. We offer a variety of treatments designed for different age groups. A large portion of our patients in orthodontia are adults. Orthodontic treatment at later stages in life can dramatically improve your personal appearance and self-esteem.
Orthodontics are not just metal brackets anymore! New techniques and appliances for straightening teeth greatly reduce discomfort levels, decrease the frequency of visits, shorten the time in treatment and may allow you to choose from several options. Your options for a beautiful smile and good dental health make a difference in your well-being and self-confidence. While braces for teens are more common, adults can benefit just as much from orthodontic treatment, as it’s never too late to improve your smile. Braces may include metal braces, clear braces, Invisalign or transparent aligners.
Call our office to schedule your complimentary initial examination. We will be able to determine the best approach for straightening your teeth for your individual needs. We can outline your treatment plan, time of treatment expected and the approximate cost.
Advanced Restorative Dentistry
Restorative Dentistry – Including Dental Crowns And Implants
Complex restorative dental cases require an equally complex combination of skill, experience and training. Mirage Dental offers patients the benefit of years of experience and expertise in advanced restorative dentistry at our comfortable office.
- Implant Dentistry
- Dental Crowns
- Laser Dentistry
- TMJ Treatment
Implant dentistry requires a unique set of artistic and technical skills. Our expertise in this area is clearly evident in patient satisfaction and retention. Mirage Dental provides outstanding results with dental implants. Committed to offering our patients a complete array of dental treatment options, dental implants provide an excellent answer for patients who are uncomfortable with dentures. Whether you’ve lost one or more teeth, restorative implant dentistry at our office may be an excellent solution for you.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants act as an anchor for replacement teeth. For stability and ease of use, there is no better solution for tooth loss than dental implants. Dental implants replicate the entire tooth including the crown and the root; thus, bone loss is kept to a minimum, healthy teeth are preserved and patients enjoy increased stability and confidence in eating and speaking.
Although we offer many restorative dentistry treatments for our patients, dentures remain a viable and cost-effective option for many people who have lost most or all of their teeth. The craft and expertise required to restore a patients dentition with dentures is a unique skillset that the dentists at Mirage Dental posses.
What are Dentures?
Dentures are removable dental appliances used to replace missing teeth.
Dentures can be made with acrylic resin, various types of metal or a combination of metal and acrylic resin.
Dentures can be attached to implants for better comfort when chewing. With implant supported dentures you never have to worry about loose or poor fitting dentures.
What is a dental crown?
Dental crowns are used at Mirage Dental office to cover cracked, severely damaged, stained or chipped teeth or to hold dental bridges in place. Crowns, often referred to as ‘caps’, are tooth-shaped coverings made from porcelain, metal or a combination of materials. They are placed over the visible part of the tooth to add strength and improve appearance. At Mirage Dental, we only place Porcelain Crowns due to their quality, strength, and esthetic values.
What is a dental bridge?
While there are several different types of dental bridges, the most commonly used bridge is a fixed bridge, which consists of a false tooth with crowns attached to either side. The bridge is used to fill a gap left by a missing tooth. The crowns are securely attached over the surrounding teeth and the false tooth fills the gap left by the missing tooth.
Diagnosing TMJ disorder (temporomandibular joint disorder) can be very difficult as facial pain can be symptomatic of many other problems. There are numerous causes for TMJ including dental problems, injury, arthritis and tooth grinding. TMJ disorder is characterized by pain in the jaw, locked jaw, headaches, clicking and popping in the ear and an uncomfortable bite. If you think you might suffer from TMJ, our Team at Mirage Dental can provide information and possible solutions.
Secure Your New Smile with Dental Implants
Dental implants at Mirage Dental are a more permanent way to fix and restore one’s smile. At Mirage Dental, we educate our patients on all of the options available to them when it comes to improving their dental health. The Dentists at Mirage Dental meets personally with each of our patients during an initial consultation and examination.
Implants function very much the same as natural teeth, and there is no discomfort from shifting, rubbing, and clicking as with removable dentures. By choosing dental implants, you are not restricting the foods you can eat or compromising your ability to chew, talk, and laugh as you would with a traditional denture.
The cost of dental implants at Mirage Dental depends on many variables; including the number of teeth being replaced and the type of implant being used. Complex restorative dental cases require an equally complex combination of skill, experience, and training. Your porcelain teeth will be crafted to the finest detail and highest quality, and they will give you the radiant, beautiful smile you deserve.
Achieve a Strong, Healthy, and Beautiful Smile
Dental bonding is available for Mirage Dental patients to both restore strength to damaged teeth and provide various cosmetic enhancements. Bonded restorations are one of the most important innovations in dentistry since the amalgam (silver) filling in the 1850’s. When teeth break, decay, or are irreversibly stained, bonded composite resin often gives the most aesthetic results.
Dental Bonding for Tooth Restoration
Teeth tend to break down from decay, a traumatic accident, or just attrition and wear over decades of use. Restorative dentistry can improve the structural integrity of teeth by restoring them to their original form and function. Most often teeth are restored to an improved shape and ability to function. This is most obvious when one goes through orthodontic treatment or instant orthodontics. Instant orthodontics means teeth are straightened and their shape improved by use of various restorative materials; specifically, composite resin, laminate veneers, or full-coverage porcelain.
Benefits of Dental Bonding
There are many advantages to using composite resin over amalgam-silver fillings. There is mercury in amalgams-silver fillings. These mercury-based restorations are being phased out in dentistry due to the health issues related to mercury. Also, when preparing the tooth, the preparation can be much more conservative. Dentists only take out the decayed portions as more tooth structure creates more surface area for bonding. This improves the strength of the restoration. Many times the final result appears as natural as if the tooth was never broken or repaired.
Implant Supported Dentures
Eat, Speak, and Smile with Confidence Again
At the turn of the 20th century most Americans had lost their complete dentition by 50 years of age. In the 1960’s, approximately 50 percent of the population over 55-years-old had lost half their teeth. At this same time, 50 percent of the population over 70-years-old had lost all of their teeth! Today, we want to keep all of our teeth for an entire lifetime; and we expect to live well into our 90’s. However, when teeth are lost, dentures are an option to restore the strength, functionality, and beauty of the smile.
Full Mouth Restoration
Restoring the Function of the Masticatory System
All teeth can typically fail, especially as we get older. Adult teeth endure a significant amount of functional abuse just from everyday continuous use. Additionally, trauma from sports or accidents, along with decay, periodontal disease, or grinding and clenching teeth also contribute to the teeth naturally breaking down. Full-mouth reconstruction is a series of procedures offered at Mirage Dental to dramatically improve the strength, functionality, and beauty of the entire smile. The treatment involves performing multiple reconstructive procedures tailored to the patient’s needs, to bring the smile back to its optimally healthy state. To learn more about full-mouth reconstruction, please contact our office today.
Candidates for Full-Mouth Reconstruction
By the time people are in their 50’s and 60’s, we often see worn teeth, crowned teeth, defective leaking restorations, amalgam-silver fillings that are over 40 years old, failing root canals, abscessed teeth, cracked and stained teeth, and the most serious: severely worn teeth. Over time, wear diminishes the functional guidance of teeth, which can cause TMJ disharmony and pain.
People that do not go to the dentist regularly, only begin to notice problems with their teeth when symptoms occur, such as pain, compromised aesthetics, or perhaps even loose teeth. Problems that go on for many years without treatment, typically do not exhibit pain until the problem is serious and many times irreversible. Specifically, problems that could have been prevented with a dental prophylaxis or filling may now be an extraction, root canal, or crown. Also, by this time functional wear has occurred and teeth begin to chip, fracture, and fail.
To protect TemporalMandibular Joint (TMJ) and teeth, the pattern of contact is for each side of tooth to guide the chewing motion from left to right. As wear increases, teeth will touch in areas that were previously protected by guidance. We see this as the front teeth begin to look “sawed off” with chipped and jagged edges. The back teeth, molars and premolars, begin to crack or break, and crowns chip. With this improper function, bone loss around the teeth can advance periodontal disease. Aesthetically, you just don’t have that youthful smile you once had. Functionally, joint pain develops from strained ligaments and disc displacement in the TMJ. The damage can be irreversible. Dentists cannot replace bone loss around the teeth. Rarely can we reverse the pain and dysfunction in the TMJ. With an occlusal guard we can protect the teeth and joint from further damage caused by grinding and clenching, thus keeping the patient out of pain, but the damage has already been done.
In advanced cases the wear is so extreme that the mouth has collapsed and the patient is over-closed from their natural position. Lower front teeth crossover the upper teeth and severe TMJ disorder results from improper functioning. The corners of the mouth can be continuously chapped, red, and cracked. This skin condition is called angular Cheilitis. It’s an infection of bacterial and yeast. Treatment is simple but the condition will continue as long as the patient is over-closed. In this situation every tooth and space should be restored with full-coverage restorations to open the vertical distance between the upper and lower teeth.
Temporomandibular Joint Disorder
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint. This joint connects the lower jaw to the base of the skull. TMJ disorder (temporomandibular joint disorder) usually presents itself with severe pain in the jaw and other areas of the face. There are numerous causes for TMJ disorder, including dental problems, alignment complications, injury, arthritis, and tooth grinding. TMJ disorder is characterized by pain in the jaw, locked jaw, headaches, clicking and popping in the ear, and an uncomfortable bite. The source of TMJ pain is believed to be displaced cartilage.
TMJ Relief from Painful Jaw Disorders
The temporomandibular joint, more commonly known as TMJ, allows the jaw to rotate and provide function for the mouth. Unfortunately, when placed under stress, this joint can function improperly, leading to pain, dysfunction, and other oral health problems for patients. At Mirage Dental, we offer TMJ disorder treatment to patients throughout the community who wish to restore comfort and proper function to their mouth.
What Causes TMD?
TMD (TemporalMandibular Disease) can be caused by several factors. Malocclusion or the misalignment of teeth can cause stress on the joint as it closes, consequently straining the ligaments, muscles, and disc. As the ligaments stretch or break, the disc can move and be displaced. This often manifests itself as a clicking or popping noise as the joint rotates. Pain is associated with this when the bones, which are highly sensitive, come into contact with one another, instead of the cushioning of the articular disc.
Bruxism or grinding of the teeth is another cause of TMD. This causes excessive attrition and wear of the contacts between the upper and lower teeth. This wear strains the joint and muscles as the upper and lower teeth glide over one another abnormally. Furthermore, as these teeth wear down, the normal function of chewing becomes stressful to the joint, ligaments, and muscles as the teeth no longer move as they were designed. This is also seen when fixed or removable prosthetic dentistry treatments or crowns are fabricated to the wrong occlusal scheme. Simply put, sometimes a crown can be too high and cause problems.
Other factors that can cause TMD include:
- Emotional stress which can cause clenching or bruxing
- Chewing habits such as biting one’s nails or chewing gum, which leads to overuse of the muscles
- Injuries to the jaw, joint, facial bones, or muscles
- Osteoid or rheumatoid arthritis
- Occupational tasks such as straining positions for the head and neck
- Opening the mouth too wide
TMJ treatment should always begin with conservative reversible procedures. Preferably, treatment includes the bite splint or occlusal guard. This acrylic, removable appliance is clear and hard, and is usually worn at night or when pain occurs. The occlusal guard is made to allow for functional movement of the teeth. When the guard is worn, the jaw is slightly open and the muscles are in a relaxed position. As inflammation of the joint diminishes, the bite splint will need to be adjusted to prevent the teeth from improperly contacting and causing stress to the joint and muscles.
Recently there has been success using Botulinum toxin. This is frequently seen under the brand name BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport. Botulinum toxin blocks neuromuscular transmissions through a decreased release of the substance acetylcholine, essentially weakening the muscles and discouraging excess movement. Injections of botulinum toxin into over-stimulated muscles of the jaw can help minimize stress to the joint and muscles, thus eliminating the pain associated with TMJ disorders.
In some instances, the teeth are so drastically misaligned that the only option is major restorative or prosthetic dentistry.

A Dental Emergency is never a fun thing to go through. However, when an emergency arises, Mirage Dental is here to help. Oftentimes, a dental emergency can be a broken tooth or filling. It can also be swelling of gums or cheeks, pain upon eating, or just general pain and achiness of a tooth or area. These are all issues that can be addressed and treated at our office. Our promise is to have emergencies seen and treated the same-day in our office.
Common Emergency Procedures:
White Tooth-Colored Fillings
Reduction of Pain
Resolution of Problem
For some people, the two scariest words in the English language are “root canal”. Fortunately, patients at Mirage Dental discovered that root canal treatment does not have to be scary at all. At Mirage Dental, we have years of experience in root canal treatment.
What is Root Canal Treatment?
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontics, deals with the treatment of dental pulp – the soft tissue inside the tooth. This procedure is often the last measure used to save a tooth prior to extraction. The pulp of the tooth contains the nerves, arteries, veins and lymph tissue. By the time decay advances near or into the pulp, the tooth is at high risk of infection and begins to ache. Thankfully, root canal treatment at our office has saved many teeth from extraction.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Our goal is to make you feel comfortable before, during, and after the extraction procedure. Here is what you can expect for extractions:
- Oral Exam: We begin with an oral examination and x-ray that evaluates the position of the wisdom teeth and allows our dentists at Mirage Dental to determine if there are any present or potential future problems.
- Extraction: In most cases, the removal of wisdom teeth is performed under intravenous (IV) sedation. We provide an environment of optimum safety that utilizes modern monitoring equipment. Our Team is experienced in anesthesia techniques, and will make your visit as comfortable as possible. These options, as well as the surgical risks (i.e. sensory nerve damage, sinus complications), will be discussed with you before the procedure is performed. Once the teeth are removed, the gum is sutured.
- Post Treatment: Once the removal process is finished, you will rest under our supervision until you are ready to be taken home. We will provide you with a postoperative kit that includes care instructions, a prescription for pain medication, antibiotics, and a follow-up appointment for suture removal.
